Momschooling or Homeschooling does not need to have this elaborate, color-coded schedule with hours of planning, ink cartridges, and time to create. Here’s one easy phonics game you can use and scaffold based on your child’s level with CHALK. It will take you 1 minute to set up and hours and days of fun π
Letter Names and Sounds Practice
The first level is writing letters in random order and ask your children the following questions based on their knowledge and age:
- Jump to the letter B.
- Jump to the letter that says /b/. Say the sound not B.
- Jump to spell BAT
- Jump to spell your name.
The next game is so much fun and sooooo helpful for children who know their letter names and most sounds and are starting to learn how to blend sounds to read in word families.
Word Families- Blending Sounds to Read
You can write the RIME, or word family in one color chalk and the ONSET, or the first letter in a different color. This will help your child see the rime in every word so their energy will be focused on saying the first letter sound and the rime together. /b/ /at/ /c/ /at/
Your child should stand in front of the first word, blend to read, and then jump onto it. Read the second word and then jump onto it! They will look and sound like cute, little reading frogs π
This chalk word game makes learning to blend sounds into words so easy and fun!
